A man tried to harm himself at the police lock-up but was stopped by officers, the police said.

The incident took place at the police headquarters in Floriana, at around 1.40pm.

The man, 18, from Tunisia, was being held in a cell. He did not manage to harm himself thanks to the timely intervention of a number of officers.

He was, nonetheless, taken to Mater Dei Hospital for a check-up.
