Who’s in and who’s out of Robert Abela’s Cabinet

Wednesday, 15 January 2020, 14:05 Last update: about 5 years ago

Every Prime Minister gives an imprint to the Cabinet of Ministers appointed.

In this regard, Abela has made an impact by changing most of the line-up that had been in office under his predecessor Joseph Muscat.

In all, five of the previous members of the Cabinet lost their place, five former parliamentary secretaries moved up to a ministerial post and four backbenchers were appointed parliamentary secretaries.

OUT

Joseph Muscat, former Prime Minister, along with former Economy Minister Chris Cardona, former Energy Minister Joe Mizzi, and former Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi (already out since his resignation in November). Anthony Agius Decelis lost his place as parliamentary secretary for the elderly.

IN

Roderick Galdes retains social accommodation as his portfolio but moves up from PS to minister; Silvio Schembri jumps to Economy Minister, while Julia Farrugia Portelli goes from PS to Tourism Minister. Aaron Farrugia takes on the difficult environment portfolio after having served as PS for European Funds, while Clint Camilleri also retains his portfolio in agriculture and fisheries but moves up from PS to minister.

Also in are four new parliamentary secretaries, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi (European Funds), Clayton Bartolo (financial services), Rosianne Cutajar (equality and reforms) and Alex Muscat (citizenship)./
