Caruana’s resignation sets government ethics benchmark - PM

Monday, 20 January 2020, 13:52 Last update: about 5 years ago

The resignation of Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana has set the government’s ethics benchmark, Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Monday.

Caruana resigned this morning after reports her husband Silvio Valletta, a former deputy police commissioner, travelled to London to watch a football game with the man suspected to be behind the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, Yorgen Fenech.

“This is the example we set and the benchmark we as a government want to abide by. I hope Opposition leader Adrian Delia will follow our example,” he said.

Abela would not reveal the name of Caruana’s successor, saying it was his prerogative to choose according to the Constitution.
