Edwin Vassallo laments lack of respect as parliamentary sitting held during father’s funeral

Nationalist MP Edwin Vassallo this morning lamented lack of respect from the House of Representatives after a sitting was held at the same time as the funeral of his father.

Speaking in Parliament this morning, Vassallo said he hoped that nobody would have to experience he had felt when the sitting was not rescheduled.

He said there was no urgency for Parliament to meet on that day, and expected the House to show more respect towards one of its members.

Vassallo’s father Salvu died in December, aged 95.

Both the Deputy PM Chris Fearne and Opposition Leader Adrian Delia expressed their condolences to Vassallo. The Speaker, Anglu Farrugia, joined the two sides of the House in expressing his sorrow.

There was no comment from any of the three on why a sitting was held at the same time.
