779 benefitting from Subsidiary Unemployment Allowance

At the end of December, there were 779 foreigners receiving a Subsidiary Unemployment Allowance.

This information was tabled in Parliament by the Minister for the Family, Children’s Rights and Social, Michael Falzon.  

PN MP Ivan Bartolo also asked the Minister how many people are registered and receiving Unemployment Assistance benefits. Falzon said that, currently, there are 608 registered for Unemployment Assistance.

Falzon was also asked how many people are entitled to UAT (Tapering of benefits for single parents).

Tapering of Benefits is given for a period of three years to those single parents who become engaged in employment or self occupation, as long as they work at least for 10 hours per week earning the hourly rate equivalent to the national minimum wage.

Falzon said that at the end of December 2019, there were 1,728 single parents benefitting from this form of assistance.
