‘Think again’: Former PL secretary general slams Konrad Mizzi contract

Tuesday, 28 January 2020, 06:31 Last update: about 5 years ago

The revelation that former tourism minister Konrad Mizzi was surreptitiously given a lucrative consultancy job with the Malta Tourism Authority has been slammed from all quarters, including from the Labour end of the political field.

Mizzi was given a €80,000 consultancy job just two weeks after he resigned in November in the wake of police investigations into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Mizzi claims being extraneous to the case, but resigned on the same day that Keith Schembri, with whom he had opened companies in Panama, quit the post of OPM chief of staff.

Former Labour Party general secretary Dominic Fenech wrote on Facebook that “if you think that because we are Labourites we accept everything, then think again.”

It was a comment he posted beneath the post he had uploaded earlier, which shows the story on Mizzi’s contract. “You still here?”, Fenech wrote, a clear reference that Mizzi should be kept away from public eye, and not given consultancy jobs.
