The woman who was killed in Zabbar after being stabbed "made only one complaint of domestic violence" to the police, way back in 2013, the police said.

The police issued a statement to reply to comments made about lack of action taken in favour of women who file complaints about domestic violence.

The police said the victim, Chantelle Chetcuti, made one complaint in February 2013. That time, the police had issued charges of domestic violence against the man who is now charged with her murder, Justin Borg.

The case against him in court was concluded on 3 June of the same year, the police said.

The police said its fight against domestic violence was and still is a priority for the corps.
