Updated: €4m in arrears - PN to take legal action against PM after 'breach of data protection law'

Tuesday, 24 March 2020, 22:05 Last update: about 5 years ago

Prime Minister Robert Abela has said that the PN owed €4 million in energy bills.

In a remark made in response to a Net journalist question, regarding why there was no mention of a proposal (made by the opposition) to reduce energy bills by 50%, Abela said that "the PN would be credible speaking about energy bills when it pays the more than €4 million it owes to the authorities."

Abela was responding to a question regarding the new economic measures the Prime Minister announced this evening.

In this package, he said that the government is not considering this proposal, but did not exclude it for the future. "We don't want to empty the war chest all at once."

In a statement in reply, the Nationalist Party said it will be initiating legal action against the Prime Minister for breaching the law on data protection.

It is unacceptable that the PM, when asked on whether energy and water tariffs should be reduced in a time of crisis, chooses to reply in a "partisan and arrogant" way and in a way that breaches data protection laws.
