Police Force modifies police report procedure due to COVID-19

Sunday, 29 March 2020, 12:12 Last update: about 5 years ago

As part of a contingency plan which the Malta Police Force established to respond to the challenges emanating from the Corononavirus, it has modified its procedure in terms of taking certain reports that do not relate to emergencies, remotely.

"We kindly inform you that in order to limit public exposure and that of our officers and out of abundance of caution, we are modifying our procedure for responses to calls for service by also accepting and taking certain reports remotely; either over the phone on +356 2294 0000, online at https://pulizija.gov.mt/opres/, using the Android & iOS 112mt App or via email on [email protected].

"This procedure, which comes into effect on 1 April 2020, is intended for offences that do not require an immediate police response."

When filing a report remotely, one must confirm and consider the following: The complainant's identity and contact number should the Police require to get in touch; That the reported case is not an emergency; That filing a false police report is a crime punishable by imprisonment; That the Malta Police Force will review the case and contact the complainant if further information is needed; That a follow up may be done via email or telephone.

"The Malta Police Force is committed to continue its daily operations and serving the community, while taking all the necessary precautions. We thank everyone for the cooperation and support shown to the Malta Police Force."
