A reshuffle of the PN shadow ministers will take place, and the announcement will be made today, PN Leader, Adrian Delia said, during an interview with NET FM, on Saturday morning.
A digital society is something the PN will be working on, as well as adequate pensions. A traffic management system should be based on use, and Malta should apply modern technology for better energy supply, Delia said.
Once the Coronavirus crisis is over, we will realise that another crisis is looming, that surrounding the climate, Delia noted.
The removal of taboos, not just in the law, will also be something the PN will be insisting on. The development in Malta should be in a circular economy, where the environment should be a priority.
'Prime Minister is being populist'
Speaking about the current Coronavirus crisis, Delia said that our healthcare professionals are of the best quality around the world. Over the last weeks, they have given evidence how they are heroes fighting at the frontline of this virus.
The Prime Minister, on the other hand, has been reactive rather than proactive, Delia said.
He gave the example that students stopped going to schools and then the Prime Minister closed the schools.
The worst evidence of this was when the Superintendent of Public Health, Charmaine Gauci gave instructions that people over the age of 65 and vulnerable people, and people who live with them should not leave their house. The next day, Prime Minister Robert Abela backtracked on this, with Delia saying Abela is being "populist".
"We need someone who makes strong decisions which are essential but also timely. The decisions are no longer about the economy or planning, but about life or death."
The PN has not only been critical but has also put forward proposals on the line of "prevention is better than cure." The party came together and showed the country that the PN is there when Malta needs it and came forward with concrete proposals, much needed by the country, Delia noted.
'Labour government betrated the country with hospitals deal'
The government has abandoned 110,000 of employees in the private sector. Delia said that safeguarding these employees would cost €80 million, the same amount of money that was lost in the Vitals deal alone. The government has an obligation to give comfort to employees, that they will not lose their jobs because of the virus, and to businesses, so they do not close down.
Speaking about the hospitals deal, Delia said that the CEO of Vitals took a six million bonus, despite the company having failed. The government preferred to give this bonus than buy the equivalent 500 ventilators.
Reports stated that €100 million had to be paid to Steward Malta if the contract is rescinded by the court. Delia made reference to this and said the Finance Minister is also responsible for this clause, as Minister for Finance.
"The Labour government betrayed the country," Delia exclaimed.
'Those profiting form this situation are being unjust and immoral'
We need to help businesses and the self-employed, Delia noted, adding that no one should abuse of the vulnerability of the consumer and the poor. "This is unjust and immoral," Delia said. Cases of mental health are increasing, people are worried about how they will feed their families, and it is unfair that people abuse this.
"There should be curbing of those who profit from this situation. This is of great social injustice."
The PN persuaded the government and agreed on how judicial appointments should take place, Delia said.
Speaking about the situation in Hungary, where the government is stealing power from the people, Delia said he wrote to EPP President, Donald Tusk to set an online conference so as decisions about this can be taken. European countries need to come together during these difficult times, Delia continued.
The price of oil has hit a record low, and even gas prices have reduced, Delia said, adding that Malta is saving €86 million, due to this. He rhetorically asked why utility bills cannot be reduced as a result of this. The truth eventually emerged, Delia noted, saying the Scicluna revealed it is not up to the government entirely as the Chinese are involved.
