Anthony Scicluna has been appointed as the new Chairperson for Heritage Malta by the Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera.

The minister said that the appointment of Scicluna comes at an important time when Heritage Malta is looking into further expanding its operations and remit into new areas such as underwater heritage, this apart from further consolidating its investments in various heritage sites.

"Heritage Malta has over the past years successfully managed to transform its position from being an operator of heritage sites and museums to actively focusing on delivering an exceptional heritage experience to its visitors", remarked Minister Herrera, noting that during these unprecedented times, the entity has managed to expeditiously deliver an initiative whereby the general public can still experience the museums and heritage sites through online platforms.

Minister Herrera said that he is confident that together with the newly appointed board, the management led by Noel Zammit as Chief Executive Officer and all employees working with the entity, it will continue to prove its commitment towards National Heritage.

Scicluna, who served as Deputy Chairperson for Heritage Malta since 2016, joined Bank of Valletta in 1984 and mainly held positions within the bank's branch network, finance and internal audit. He was appointed as Chief Officer Human Resources and Ethics in 2016. Educated at St Aloysius College and the New Lyceum, Scicluna is a certified public accountant and holds a practicing certificate in auditing. He is a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants and also holds an honours degree in Business Management from the University of Malta.

Graham Busuttil, a lawyer by profession and a former member of the Natural Heritage Advisory Committee and former Deputy Chairman on UNESCO Geoparks, has been appointed as Deputy Chairperson.
