The police said a theft in Msida had been solved within hours. A woman has been arrested and all stolen items, including jewellery, have been returned.

Assistant Commissioner Alexandra Mamo said that in spite of extra duties that police have been carrying out in connection with the Coronavirus pandemic, the officers are carrying out their normal work to prevent crime and catch any perpetrators.

“It was our pleasure to inform the woman who had been a victim of theft that her items had been recovered,” Mamo said.

The police said that on Tuesday afternoon, a report had been filed that a woman wearing a protective mask had knocked on the door of a residence in Msida, telling the resident – a 79-yeatr-old woman – that she had been sent by a company that represents vulnerable persons.

From investigations carried out, the police found out that the company in question had not sent any of its employees to that particular residence. The “employee” had later made off with jewellery she found in the woman’s bedroom.

She had later been identified and arrested, with all stolen items returned to the woman (photo).

Mamo appealed to elderly people not to open their homes to people they do not know.
