Covid-19: 24/7 mental health helpline launched

Friday, 10 April 2020, 09:55 Last update: about 5 years ago

A 24/7 helpline to help people who are experiencing mental health problems during the Covid-19 pandemic has been launched.

The helpline number is 1770.

The service was launched by the Health Ministry in collaboration with the Richmond Foundation.

More than 30 mental health professionals are available to give assistance and refer people to a psychologist if need be.

Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne noted that even people who have never had any mental health issues can feel the need to speak to professionals. He urged people to use this service rather than remain silent. Those who already have mental health conditions should take good care of themselves and speak to experts on a regular basis.
