Fire at old people’s home in Rabat, two need treatment for smoke inhalation

No one was hurt but two needed treatment for smoke inhalation after a fire at an old people’s home run by the Church, the Curia said in a statement.

The fire developed in a room at Dar Saura, in Rabat, the statement said.

The blaze was put out by workers at the home before the firefighters arrived.

The police were also called for assistance as was a medical team which ascertained that none of the residents and workers had been injured.

A nurse and a carer however needed oxygen after they inhaled smoke.

Sixty-one elderly people are accommodated at the residence, which us under full lockdown with nurses and carers because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
