Institute for Education releases new online prospectus for 2020-2021

The Institute for Education has released its new online prospectus for 2020-2021, consisting of more courses than previous years and covering a wider range of subjects.

This prospectus was released on Friday morning and it covers all the courses starting from October of this year.

“Gone is the time were courses are cast in stone. When we released the Institute of Education we wanted it to be a machine of flexibility so that anyone can find a course that will fit into their busy lifestyles,” principal permanent Secretary Frank Fabri said.

Education Minister Owen Bonnici said that this prospectus is not only directed to all educators who wish to improve their teaching, but it also targets anyone who wishes to get into the world of teaching; something that the ministry is encouraging. “Whoever enters the field of education is building part of our future,” he said.

CEO Joanne Grima explained that there three new courses have been added in Bachelors of Education- Biology, PE and Hair and Beauty, with the addition of the Master of Education in Ethics and in Mathematics.

The institute will also be offering Postgraduate Certificates to those educators that teach a subject and wish to be qualified to teach another subject that is similar to the one they already teach. The subjects that have been added are Hospitality, Agribusiness and Fashion and Textiles.

“We know how much vocational subjects are sought after. This is why there is the need that our educators equip themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge in order to guide our students to the next level of achievement, as is done in all other subjects. We will be offering a total of 29 qualifications for people who wish to become teachers and for supply teachers who wish to progress in their qualifications in order to become a regular teacher,” said Bonnici.

The Institute for Education will also be offering a course that is very popular with people who wish to advance in their career and become heads of schools. This course is Master Degree in Applied Educational Leadership and in the last two years, applications ran out in just 11 minutes.

One can also find around 44 Awards in the Prospectus which are short accredited courses on various subjects. Some of these are done part-time and partly online while others are done completely online. Two courses that were always shortlisted to be offered are Award in Educational Neuroscience and Award in Outdoor Learning which tackle the biology of the human brain and a practical way how learning can be done outside, respectively.

There will be a virtual open day on Friday 15 Maywhere in one can ask any questions they have regarding the prospectus. This ca be done by accessing the institute’s Facebook page and applying for one of the live session, starting from Monday 11 May One can access this open day through the institute’s Facebook page and from Monday 11 May 2020.

The Prospectus can be found online where one can view all the qualifications and courses being offered together with the new additional courses when applications are out on the 20th of May.
