A 71-year-old woman was seriously injured this morning when she was hit by a car in Hamrun, the police said.

The accident took place in St Joseph high Road at 10.45am.

The woman, a Hamrun resident, was hit by LDV Maxus driven by a 21-year-old man from Qormi.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia is leading an inquiry.
