46 people are in distress in Malta's Search and Rescue Zone, a tweet by Alarm Phone read.

"They just reached out to Alarm Phone. They escaped Libya yesterday and are now ~50nm from Lampedusa. They need urgent help," the NGO tweeted.

This morning, the Maltese government commissioned another tourist boat, and the migration NGO Alarm Phone had reported that there was a vessel (a different one carrying 80 people) at sea within Malta's Search and Rescue (SAR) zone.
