Delia has ‘absolutely no reason to doubt’ Karol Aquilina over reckless driving allegations

Opposition Leader Adrian Delia told The Malta Independent that he has ‘absolutely no reason to doubt’ PN MP Karol Aquilina over the reckless driving allegations.

ONE Presenter Karl Stagno Navarro had broadcast footage which he says shows Aquilina not cooperating with the police by leaving his car in the middle of the road “to serve as an obstacle” to a car that was being escorted, and also alleged that he endangered police officers. In a letter to the police, Stagno Navarra alleges that charges were issued against Aquilina but were later withdrawn.

PN MP Karol Aquilina has denied the allegations made against him, that he put officer's lives at risk through his driving. Stagno Navarro has requested has asked the police to investigate.

The Malta Independent sent questions to Opposition Leader Adrian Delia about the situation. Delia was asked whether the PN backs Aquilina in his claims that he did not breach any laws, whether Delia has spoken to Karol Aquilina about the matter and what steps will be taken, if any, if Aquilina is placed under investigation by the police?

“I have spoken to Karol Aquilina who has already publicly had occasion to rebut these allegations as being totally unfounded and untrue. I have absolutely no reason to doubt Karol. On the other hand the reasons and intentions of those behind these allegations are evidently partisan and politically motivated,” Delia said.

The PN Leader did not indicate whether any steps will be taken if a police investigation ensues.
