A 30-year-old Zejtun resident was arrested in Gozo after allegedly driving perilously in Marsalforn. The police also said that the man resisted arrest.

The incident took place at around midnight, when a report was received regarding a man breaking umbrellas by the bay, and that he drove his vehicle onto chairs.

While district police were on the way to the site, they noted the car that was reported speeding in the wrong carriageway, heading right at the police officers. The officers in the vehicles managed to avoid the oncoming car, while continuing to follow it. The driver ignored sirens and sped, a police statement read.

The district police officers, assisted by RIU units, managed to stop the car in Rabat. The driver was ordered to exit the vehicle but he disobeyed orders, the police said, adding that he started threatening officers and resisting arrest.

The police managed to control the driver after a while and arrested him, the police said. The police suspected that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and asked him to undergo a breathalyser test, however he continuously refused and threatened the officers, the police said.

The man was charged with resisting arrest and threatening officers, disobeying orders, breaching the peace, driving recklessly while drunk, among other things. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail
