The Archdiocese of Malta has published directives regarding feasts for 2020, which will come into effect on 1 July.
The directives note that the health authorities have indicated that mass activities can take place, and mention that consultation was made with Parish Priests as well as band clubs and others.
The directives are based on three principles, the Christian people praising God, to strengthen the sense of Christian community, and to give special importance to the principle of solidarity with more than normal emphasis on the support the Church offers to those in need.
In a statement, the Archdiocese said that they explain in detail what was announced earlier this year on 24 March.
Feasts will be celebrated only through a solemn mass and a procession in the streets only on the liturgical date of the feast or on the Sunday it is normally celebrated on.
The procession, that is a walk of faith must not take longer than 2 hours, will be characterised with participative prayer, and could include a band to accompany the prayers with religious songs or processional marches tied to the saint.
Aside from feasts in localities, on 14 September a diocesan pilgrimage will be organised as thanks to God by the Archbishop Charles Scicluna, with a statue of Jesus on the cross which is found in the ta' Giezu Church in Valletta.
