Two men were seriously injured after boats caught fire in Mgarr Harbour early this morning.

The boats were berthed at a pontoon inside the harbour in the area known as Zewwieqa, the police said.

The incident was reported at around 3.30am.

Members of the Civil protection Department were called onto the site to control the blaze.

The two men, aged 29 of Mellieha and 34 of Ghajnsielem, were taken to hospital with burns and smoke inhalation. Both suffered serious injuries.

Magistrate Bridgette Sultana is leading an inquiry.
