Two men are in hospital after two trucks collided in the Maghtab landfill, one of them being in a serious condition.

The accident happened at around 9am inside Wasteserv's complex.

The crash involved an Isuzu Elf and a Mercedes Ateco, with the Mercedes ending up a storey below the road level and the Isuzu sustaining significant damage. Both the drivers were, consequently, stuck inside their respective cabins.

Civil Protection Department workers rescued both of the drivers from the cabin, and both men were taken to Mater Dei Hospital in ambulances.

The Isuzu driver, a 33-year-old from Zabbar, is suffering from serious injuries, while the Mercedes driver, a 53-year-old from Naxxar, is suffering from light injuries only.

Duty Magistrate Doreen Clarke opened a magisterial inquiry into the accident, while police investigations are also ongoing.
