“Melvin Theuma is dying because of your incompetence,” PN MP Beppe Fenech Adami told Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri on Wednesday.
He was reacting to a short ministerial statemen by Camilleri, a day after the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder middleman allegedly tried to take his own life at his Swieqi apartment.
Fenech Adami asked whether Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri would shoulder responsibility after the incident, which left the “most important” witness in the Caruana Galizia murder fighting for his life.
“It makes no difference whether this was an attempt on his life or whether this was a suicide attempt. The most important court case in the past 50 years has been jeopardised because of this,” he said.

Fenech Adami continued: “as Minister responsible for such matters, you should have made sure that such a thing would never happen. It is your responsibility.”
Opposition Leader Adrian Delia asked whether there is going to be an investigation into the protection the police had been providing for Theuma.”
He also asked whether there are any further developments on this case, apart from what was said in the morning by Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said he is "only interested in the truth"
In reply, Camilleri said, “I am only interested in the truth and I will not go into partisan speech.”
“I have no more information to give other than what Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa stated this morning. I will let the Malta Police Force do its job.” Camilleri said.
Camilleri remarked that, “when one ignores the facts of this case and instead forms unsupported allegations, it confirms that for these people partisan politics comes before the truth.”
