Delia welcomes Casa testimony that he has no evidence of Yorgen Fenech payment to PN

PN leader Adrian Delia has welcomed the testimony of his own MEP David Casa, wherein Casa said that he has no evidence that Yorgen Fenech made a payment to the PN so that he is not re-elected to the European Parliament.

“This strengthens and confirms what I have already said and denied in the most absolute and categorical manner in an affidavit under oath where I denied the false allegations against me”, the party leader said.

It had been alleged that Yorgen Fenech – who stands accused of being complicit in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia – had paid the PN so that Casa would not be re-elected in the 2019 MEP elections.

Casa testified in the public inquiry into the death of Caruana Galizia on Friday.

"I felt that the party didn't want to push me as a candidate. I was given less coverage... I was removed from head of delegation by Adrian Delia", Casa said.

Casa was one of the 19 parliamentary group members who voted against Delia’s leadership some weeks ago.

In a statement published by the PN itself, Delia said that Casa had remained the PN’s Head of Delegation in the European Parliament when he became leader in 2017.

He had only been replaced by fellow MEP Roberta Metsola after she received more votes in the 2019 MEP elections, Delia said.

“I felt that this was the most just decision which reflects the result of the democratic process which the people had gone through”, he said.

Delia said that the inquiry is about an assassination which shook the foundations of the country’s democracy to its core, and augured that it is left to work in the best way possible so that the truth can emerge and that justice can be done.
