Contingency plan sees schools opening in second term

Monday, 3 August 2020, 19:36 Last update: about 5 years ago

While the plan remains for schools to open in September, contingency plans exist for educational facilities to open in the second term.

The education authorities, in fact, have drafted a contingency syllabus plan for a scenario where schools do not open after the summer recess.

Schools closed down in March as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Education Minister Owen Bonnici said recently that the plan is for schools to open on 28 September.

But three different scenarios have been drafted. The first scenario is where schools open in September, with teachers carrying out their duties as normal.

In the second scenario, schools reopen but students attend in alternating groups, so as to limit the spread of the Coronavirus.

In the third scenario, schools would remain shut in September and teaching would carried out online.

The guidelines and different scenarios can be found here.
