A family argument led to a shooting incident in Ghaxaq, with one man being killed, the police said.

Police said in a statement that their assistance was called for at around 11:10 in the morning in Triq il-Gudja in Ghaxaq on Friday, after receiving information that a person had been injured with a firearm during a family argument.

Members of the Rapid Intervention Unit and district police went on site along with a medical team to assist the victim, who was found injured in the bathroom of a residence.

The man - a 37-year-old - died on site. TVM later reported that the victim is a man named Antoine Dalli.

Police said that the man's father, whom the media named as Salvu Dalli - known also as "Danger Man" - was arrested at the same residence and taken to the Police Depot in Floriana for further questioning.

The police said that the incident is being treated as a homicide.

They said that preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was shot in the chest, while they also noted that the alleged murder weapon was found in the same residence.

Investigations are being led by the Homicide Squad and Major Crimes Department along with district police. Magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry.
