Opposition Leader Adrian Delia has hit back at leadership contender Bernard Grech, after the latter criticised the current PN Leader over his failure to unite the party.
In an interview with The Times of Malta, Grech said that the PN became more fragmented under Delia.
"Strange why Bernard Grech starts his campaign on such a negative critical note. Maybe it's his advisors from pre-2013 who don't know otherwise," Delia said, in reference to a Times of Malta article.
"I instead will share a friendly word of advice. Unity is what we both want. Sadly, not so those who anointed you, not so much for your healing powers but simply to oust a democratically elected leader they don't control."
"What tops it though is that's you ponder whether I still have the party at heart ! Well it's a bit more than that actually. Bernard Grech I gave this party everything I had and am. My career, my passion, my life. Everything. My heart and soul."
"But yes, let's unite. Me, you and all those eager prospects which we were about to announce as being the next generation PN. And all those of goodwill, within and outside the PN that want you to join the cause but not on the reins of those behind you."
Delia and Grech are currently undergoing a due diligence process by the PN, after the two submitted their nominations to contest the election for the leadership of the PN.
The election came about after Delia lost two confidence votes in the Parliamentary Group and in the Executive Committee. The General Council then voted for there to be a leadership election.
