42 new cases of Covid-19 were found overnight, health authorities said in their daily update on Thursday.
18 new recoveries were also found in the last 24 hours, meaning that the number of active cases in Malta currently stands at 680.
680 is the third highest tally of active cases that Malta has had since Covid-19 hit the island. The highest number of active cases on the island at any given stage was of 699, while the second highest was of 682.
2,303 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 240,387.
Authorities said that today’s cases are still being investigated, but gave details about the cases reported on Wednesday.
A total of 42 cases were reported on Wednesday, out of which 13 were family members of previously known cases, 3 were direct contacts of positive cases, another 3 were from social gatherings with positive cases, while 2 more were work colleagues of previously known cases.
Malta has had 2,898 cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. 2,191 out of those have recovered, while 27 have died – with the most recent deaths being registered on Thursday morning with the passing of two elderly home residents.
