St Paul’s Bay local council files late objection to development on fuel station site - PN

The St Paul's Bay local council filed an objection to a planning application that will see further development on the site of a fuel station in Burmarrad, however filed it too late, the Nationalist Party has said.

The application, among other things, is for the proposed excavation of a parking area under a proposed construction of catering establishment based on two floors.

The majority of local councillors agreed to object to the application, however the council had filed the objection too late, the PN said.

The PN said that the objection was sent to the Authority after the closing date for objections.

"As such, the interests of the people and the surrounding environment were not considered."

The PN said that when the council was led by the PN, it had filed an appeal against the authority's decision to issue a permit for the construction of the original fuel station on agricultural land. Unfortunately, the appeal was withdrawn when the PN lost the majority in the locality, and this through a PL councillors vote, a decision which the PN councillors were against."

The PN said that "it is sad that the objection to this latest application was not submitted in time, and as such the council does not have a voice in this application."
