Valletta mayor’s car set on fire

Friday, 25 September 2020, 08:08 Last update: about 5 years ago

The car owned by Valletta mayor Alfred Zammit was set ablaze on Thursday night, a week after he spoke out against a spate of arson attacks in the capital city.

Zammit, a popular TV presenter on One TV, had told The Times that people are terrorised and worried about their safety.

“This is a situation where everyone is wondering who could be next. It could have affected anyone,” he said.

Three separate incidents were reported within the space of a few weeks in St Sebastian Street, St Nicholas Street and East Street, which prompted Zammit to say that Valletta residents had become increasingly worried about their safety and their property.

The arson attack was condemned by the Local Councils Association, the Labour Party, the Nationalist Party and civil society NGO Repubblika, among others.
