One of the three men accused of murdering Daphne Caruana Galizia is claiming that “prominent individuals” linked to the assassination are still to be publicly named.
Vince Muscat, known as il-Kohhu, is accusing the police of delaying a report on his request for a presidential pardon in exchange for details about the murder and other crimes he knows about.
In a court application filed by his lawyer Marc Sant, Muscat claims that police investigators are playing for time to defend prominent third parties, some of whom are politicians. No names were mentioned.
Muscat has requested the testimony of all members of the Cabinet since 2017 to testify about his plea for a presidential pardon, which was rejected.
The request was filed after middleman Melvin Theuma – who was granted a presidential pardon – and suspected mastermind Yorgen Fenech were arrested last November.
Muscat says that in five long sessions with the police since then, he has given information about various crimes but the police have failed to finalise the report about his pardon request.
Among the list of witnesses in the application are George and Alfred Degiorgio, who are also accused of carrying out the bomb plot, as well as Theuma and Fenech.
