Two men arrested for robbing 84-year-old woman

Two men were arrested by police in connection with an assault and robbery of an 84-year-old woman in Qawra on Thursday.

The men, a 35-year-old from Marsa and a 31-year-old from Rabat, are being held at the Police’s lock-up in Floriana.

Police were informed at around 1pm that an elderly woman had been attacked and robbed while she was walking in Triq Dawret il-Gzejjer in Qawra.

Preliminary investigations showed that the two men were in a car which then stopped near the woman.  The 35-year-old left the vehicle to attack the woman, however he was held by bystanders who witnessed the scene unfold.

The man continued to be held until police arrived.

The other man left the scene in the car, but was identified soon after.  He was arrested later in Rabat.

The woman suffered light injuries.

Investigations, led by the police’s major crimes unit together with Qawra district police, are ongoing.
