Tourism sector workers affected by Covid-19 slow-down can now work in contact tracing

Workers in the tourism sector who have been affected by the Covid-19 economic slowdown can now take up work with Malta’s contact tracers.

In a communication to all MTA licence holders, the MTA said that employers may forward a list of employees currently eligible for the wage supplement who may be interested in performing contact tracing duties with health authorities for the coming months.

Those selected to join the contact tracers will continue to receive the €800 wage supplement as well as an added €5.28 an hour as a top-up.

The scheme is being run by the MTA in conjunction with Malta Enterprise.

Those selected need to be fluent in either Maltese or English – ideally both – possess basic computer skills, and be of good conduct.  Applicants may also be subject to an interview by health authorities.

Those who are interested can send an e-mail to [email protected] by November 4 or call on 2169 2447.

The news comes as Malta’s contact tracing teams continue to lag a few days behind while trying to keep up with the high number of Covid-19 cases being found in the country.

Malta is looking to expand its testing for the virus even further, with two new swabbing hubs – one in Floriana and another in the North of the island – set to open by next week.  Rapid testing meanwhile has also begun.
