140 new cases of Covid-19 found overnight

140 new cases of Covid-19 were found overnight, the latest figures reported by health authorities show.

117 new recoveries were also registered.

It means that the number of active cases has increased to 2,155.

3,093 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of swabs up to 395,136 so far.

Authorities said that today’s cases are still being investigated, but gave details about the cases reported on Wednesday.

Out of the 173 cases reported: 22 were family members of previously known cases, 18 were contacts of positive work colleagues, and 14 were direct contacts of other positive cases.

Malta has had 8,560 cases in total so far. 6,301 of those have recovered, while 104 have died.
