240 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday as the number of active cases of the virus exceeded 2,500.
80 people meanwhile have recovered, while one Covid-19 patient has died. The Health Ministry said an 85-year-old man who tested positive on 27 December died on Monday at Mater Dei Hospital.
The number of active cases now stands at 2,519, which is once again a record-high.
3,354 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 550,267 so far.
Out of the 133 cases reported on Monday: 42 were family members of previously known cases, 11 were work colleagues of positive cases, 11 were from social gatherings, and 6 were direct contacts of other positive cases.
Malta has had 14,769 cases of Covid-19. 12,016 of those have recovered, while 234 have died.
