189 new cases of Covid-19 found as active cases remain at record levels

189 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Wednesday as the number of active cases remained at a record high.

107 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, while no new deaths were reported.

It means that the number of active cases now stands at 2,601.

3,405 swab tests were carried out in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 553,672 so far.

Out of the 240 cases reported on Tuesday: 45 were family members of previously known cases, 15 were work colleagues of positive cases, 15 were from social gatherings with other positive cases, and another 6 were direct contacts of positive cases.

Malta has now had 14,958 cases of Covid-19.  12,123 have recovered, while 234 had died.
