121 new cases of Covid-19 found, one more Covid-19 patient dies

121 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Thursday along with the death of another patient suffering from the virus.

127 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus – making this the first day in a while when the number of active cases decreased.  Indeed, the number of active cases are down to 2,594 – only a marginal decrease.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said that the death reported today was of a 65-year-old woman who tested positive for the virus on 29 December.  She passed away on Wednesday at Mater Dei Hospital.

3,512 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 557,184.

Out of the 189 cases reported on Wednesday: 42 were family members of previously known cases, 12 were from social gatherings with other positive cases, 11 were contacts of positive work colleagues, and 9 were direct contacts of positive cases.

Malta has now had 15,079 cases of the virus. 12,250 of those have recovered, while 235 have died.
