Kenneth Grech will be reinstated to the Covid-19 response team after he finishes his duties on the National Health Strategy, meaning that the Medical Association of Malta will be suspending its planned industrial action.
MaltaToday quoted MAM President Martin Balzan as saying that the industrial dispute itself will be withdrawn as soon as Grech is back on the response team and that all planned industrial actions had been postponed.
The MAM met with the Health Ministry on Wednesday to discuss the situation surrounding the redeployment of Kenneth Grech, where a “satisfactory agreement” was reached between the two which would see Grech return to the Covid-19 team once he concludes his current work.
Grech was moved out of the Covid-19 response team over the weekend, leaving doctors and members of public health fuming after it was perceived that he was moved due to recommendations for caution that he had given on the reopening of schools last week.
The Health Ministry later said that Grech had been redeployed elsewhere because his expertise was needed for Malta to secure EU funds for the country’s health strategy.
No timeline has been given thus far on when Grech will return to the Covid-19 response team.
