A 45-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly robbing three elderly people along with her 13-year-old son, police said on Monday.

Police said that they were called to a residence in Triq Sir Luigi Preziosi in St. Paul’s Bay at around 12:00 on Sunday after reports of a burglary.

District police from Qawra went on site, and preliminary investigations showed that a woman, who was accompanied by a minor, knocked on the door and started begging for money.

One of the three elderly people who lived in the house opened the door, and then went inside to get some money.  The woman however followed her in and snatched an amount of money from off of a table before making a quick escape with the child in tow.

Police from the rapid intervention unit immediately mounted a search and within half an hour had spotted two people who matched the description given by the victims.  The woman and child were stopped and searched in Triq l-10 ta’Frar in St. Paul’s Bay.

The stolen money was found in the boy’s possession.

The woman was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court this morning before Duty Magistrate Ian Farrugia.

The boy meanwhile was taken to some relatives.
