A package which caused alarm due to its resemblance to a possible car bomb turned out to be a false alarm in Pieta on Tuesday afternoon.

Police told this newsroom that alarm was raised in a parking lot in Triq ix-Xatt, Pieta, when a bomb was thought to be located underneath a car.

Police were called in at 2pm over the package, with the Armed Forces of Malta sending the Bomb Disposal Unit to the scene as well.  The site was given the all-clear at around 5pm.

The suspected ‘package’ resulted in being empty once the search was concluded.
