The appointment of Edward Scicluna to the MFSA's board shows that government is failing to consider Malta's credibility, PN MP Therese Comodini Cachia and Graham Bencini, President Forum Professjonisti PN (FPPN) said

Through his appointmend as the Governor of the Central Bank, former Finance Minister Edward Scicluna is also seated ont he board of the Malta Financial Services Authority, she said. "Under normal circumstances the appointment of the Central Bank Governor to the MFSA board would raise no concern or controversy, but Scicluna's case is different."

"This latest appointment shows how Robert Abela's government is failing to look at Malta's reputation and credibility as a financial services jurisdiction and is, instead, choosing to keep his eyes closed. This is happening in the context of increasing pressure for Malta to clean up its act."

"Scicluna is, until today, a person of interest in a magisterial inquiry. While the presumption of innocence is sacrosanct, this shadow of doubt makes Scicluna's appointment inappropriate due to Malta's need to paint itself in a positive light."

The Forum Professjonisti Partit Nazzjonalista appealed to the government to put the national interest first and to take good governance seriously.
