Vulnerable Gozitans being told to go to Malta to get vaccinated, PN MP claims

Thursday, 18 February 2021, 17:31 Last update: about 4 years ago

Medically vulnerable Gozitans and Gozitan frontliners are being told to go to Malta in order to get vaccinated against Covid-19, PN MP Chris Said claimed on Thursday.

Taking to Facebook to express his anger at the situation, Said said that a number of Gozitans who are considered as being vulnerable or as frontliners have received an appointment to get vaccinated against Covid-19 in Malta, and not in Gozo.

He said that if this is the case, it is an unacceptable situation and that it makes no sense whatsoever that Gozitans, especially those who are medically vulnerable, are sent to get vaccinated in Malta.

“It seems like the responsible authorities aren’t using all that much common sense”, Said lamented.

He called upon the government and the health department to offer a solution and to offer the vaccine to all Gozitans in Gozo in the shortest timeframe possible.

Malta has, as of Wednesday, administered 57,683 doses of the vaccine.  18,536 people have received both doses of the vaccine.

The government has said that the vaccination programme is currently running three weeks ahead of schedule, and that this will only accelerate when a fourth vaccine – the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine – is expected to be approved in March.
