221 new Covid-19 cases found as one more patient passes away

221 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday as one more person passed away while positive for the virus.

It is the first time since 9 February that the number of cases found in a single day has exceeded 200, and also the fourth highest number of daily cases on record since the pandemic began.

Authorities said that an 84-year-old man had died while positive for the virus at St. Vincent de Paule.

191 people meanwhile have recovered, meaning that the number of active cases has increased to 2,500.

3,274 swab tests were carried out on Monday, taking the total number of swab test up to 680,433 so far.

66,334 doses of the vaccine were administered as of Monday, with 21,160 people received both doses of the vaccine.

Malta has had 21,306 cases of the virus so far. 18,500 of them have recovered, while 306 have died.
