‘New road in Santa Venera should be named after Miriam Pace’ – Santa Venera minority leader

A new road which was built in Santa Venera should be named after the late Miriam Pace, the PN minority leader of the Santa Venera local council Darren Carabott said in a Facebook post.

“I have just put forward a proposal to name the newly built road in Santa Venera ‘Triq Miriam Pace’. This road was opened a few months ago and is around 200 metres away from where the tragedy happened. Since this road is yet without a name, I spoke to the family of Pace and requested permission to push forward this proposal,” Carabott said.

Miriam Pace died early in March 2020 after her house collapsed while a plot next to her house was being excavated. While she was in her own home, the house collapsed, and after hours of searches, it was found that she was dead under the rubble of bricks that once were her haven. Four men are accused of involuntary homicide and are facing proceedings in court.

Carabott noted that “justice for what this family lost can never happen”, and that is why the councillor feels that the country needs to heed the memory of Pace and remember why she died.  He also pointed out that the reform around construction should take place so that “everyone feels comfortable and secure in his own home.”

Carabott noted that is still a proposal and has yet to be referred to the committee of road naming by the Santa Venera local council.
