Prime Minister Robert Abela discussed transport and climate change with the Secretary for Transport of the United States Pete Buttigieg on Monday.

Abela said that during the phonecall he congratulated Buttigieg for his appointment and they discussed Malta’s vision for the transport sector and the country’s aim to have a carbon neutral economy.

It is clear, Abela said, that these are sectors where the two countries can work together.

Abela noted that the achievements that the country has made on civil liberties have been noted in the United States as well.

Buttigieg, who is of Maltese descent as his father was born in Hamrun, is a member of US President Joe Biden’s cabinet.

He tweeted thanking Abela for his time, and saying that he is glad that “in addition to our heritage, we also share a commitment to delivering on our nations' climate goals!”
