Record 263 new Covid-19 cases registered as two more people die

A record 263 new Covid-19 cases were registered on Sunday, the highest ever number of single day cases.

In their daily update, the health authorities said that two more people died while positive for the virus on Sunday. Both were men, aged 76 and 57, and both died at Mater Dei Hospital.

The authorities said that 192 people recovered, meaning that the number of active cases has now risen to 2,720.

This brings the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic up to 22,482. Of these cases, 19,447 have recovered and 315 people have died.

The authorities also provided information with regards to vaccinations. Up until Saturday, 77,967 vaccine doses were administered. 26,781 of these were second doses.

In terms of swab tests, the total number has now risen to 698,239.
