An elderly woman dies Monday morning after she was hit by a car in Qrendi, the police said.

The accident took place in Tempesta Street at around 8am.

The woman, aged 81 of Qrendi, was hit by a Volkswagen driven by a 30-year-old woman of Mqabba.

Police said that the woman was certified as dead on site.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit is leading an inquiry.
