Il-Koħħu to testify against Degiorgio brothers in compilation of evidence

Monday, 1 March 2021, 19:21 Last update: about 4 years ago

Vince Muscat will be testifying against Daphne murder suspects George and Alfred Degiorgio, a court heard today.

Muscat had been charged over the murder together with the Degiorgios, but he was sentenced to 15 years last week in a plea-bargaining agreement. He also received a pardon related to the 2015 murder of lawyer Carmel Chircop.

On Monday, deputy Attorney General Philip Galea Farrugia entered an application asking Judge Edwina Grima to authorise Muscat’s testimony against the Degiorgios and to have him accepted as a competent witness in terms of law.

In the application, the Deputy AG described Muscat’s recent admission as a “significant, if not crucial development.”

Madam Justice Grima accepted the request and Muscat has been added to a list of witnesses in the compilation of evidence against the other two alleged hitmen.

Muscat’s admission and the information he gave the police led to the arrest and arraignment of four individuals. They were charged in connection with the Daphne and Chircop murders.

Times of Malta reported on Monday that the information he provide also led the police to reopen the 2014 ‘Tyson Butcher’ gangland vendetta murder.
