A 41-year-old motorcyclist was grievously injured on Saturday in a traffic accident in Mellieha.

The accident took place in Triq Selmun, at around 10:45am, the police said.

The man, who is from Mellieha, lost control of his Suzuki bike, which then crashed into an oncoming Opel car that was being driven by a 70-year-old man from Balzan. The was given first aid on site and was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

The police are investigating.
