PN’s call for reopening of Egrant inquiry ‘revenge against me and my family’ - Muscat

Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said Monday that the Nationalist Party is only interested in getting revenge against him and his family.

His comments came after the PN called for the Egrant inquiry to be reopened after the latest developments involving Nexia BT’s Brian Tonna and Karl Cini.

In a Facebook post, Muscat said it became clear today that, despite all that it says, “the PN does not believe in the institutions when these do not play to its tune.”

He said certain PN exponents are now refusing to accept the conclusions of the inquiry that lasted many months and had access to all necessary resources, including foreign experts.

He pointed out that the inquiry, which spoke to no less than 477 witnesses, had found that someone had falsified documents in an attempt to frame him and his family up. The inquiry, he said, had recommended that the police take action against the people behind these forgeries. “One of these persons is still abroad,” he said, in an apparent reference at Pilatus Bank whistleblower Maria Efimova.

The PN does not want the truth, he said. “What it wants is to try and get revenge against me and my family because they will never forgive me for obtaining, time after time, the mandate to stop it from continuing to treat this country as its personal fiefdom, as it had done for almost 25 years.”

The Egrant inquiry had found no proof to substantiate claims that the Panamanian company – opened by Nexia BT – belonged to Muscat or his wife Michelle.
